About Camp Joslin
Location Our summer facilities are located 50 miles west of Boston in Charlton, Mass., near Old Sturbridge Village. Our camp sits on approximately 300 acres of land with a 20-acre pond. We offer extensive waterfront programs including swimming, rowing, sailing, kayaking, canoeing and some very good fishing.
Staff Camp Joslin Staff consists of a camp director, administrative team, wilderness leadership experts, cabin counselors, recreation specialists, kitchen and maintenance staff and a 24-hour healthcare team that includes resident physician(s), nurses and nutritionists. Joslin’s ratio, one counselor or medical staff person to three campers, is very high. Staff from Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston, including pediatricians, pediatric nurses, psychologists and dietitians, also provide support to the camp team.
Participants The majority of our campers come from New England but every summer we host children from across the country and around the world. Young people at Camp Joslin have a rare opportunity to interact with their peers from a variety of ethnic, religious and national backgrounds who share the common experience of living with diabetes. Most campers have never encountered a bonding experience like this before coming to Camp Joslin. Camp Joslin’s unique atmosphere affords a powerful life-enhancing experience for our campers and many campers maintain these life-enhancing friendships as adults.
Campership (Scholarship) Aid In the 80-year history of Camp Joslin’s programs for children with diabetes, we have never turned a child away because of a family’s inability to afford camp tuition. We continue this mission through Camperships—scholarships that are made possible by generous donations. Aid is available to families who qualify. Please contact us directly with questions regarding Camperships and fundraising opportunities.
